
VALLEJO >> Mountain Vista Middle School wrestlers Megan Stottsberry and Danielle Stevens brought home third-place medals from the 13th annual California Girls Middle School Wrestling State Championships last weekend in Vallejo.
Stottsberry competed in the 112-pound division and Danielle Stevens in the 175-pound division. They advance to the upcoming National Championships.
Stottsberry and Stevens were coached by Kelseyville High School students and wrestlers Brianna Christian and Brianna Thomas.
In other Mountain Vista Middle School wrestling news, the team won its first ever Lake County Junior High Athletic League championship on Thursday at Terrace Middle School in Lakeport.
First-place medals went to Mateo Uribe, Brandon Garcia, Justin Gentle, Ethan Bonson, Jacob Jensen, Nancy Garcia, Hayden Fowler, Joey Gentle, Carmen Garcia, Stevens and Stottsberry, who was named the girls’ most valuable player. Justin Gentle also won the fastest-pin award (eight seconds).
Second-place medals went to Angelia Bonson, Gabriel Ambriz and Elisa Jaquez. Third-place medals went to Triton Marlowe, Colin Jensen, Rachel Runyon and Jeremiah Rodrigues.
The team is coached by Julio Ambriz and Adam Garcia.
