At Lower Lake, the Middletown Mustangs rolled up a football-like score in beating the Lower Lake Trojans in a five-inning NCL I game.
Middletown improved to 2-0 in league play and 8-0 overall while Lower Lake fell to 1-1 in league.
“All my subs were in the game early,” Middletown first-year coach Jon Hoogendoorn said. “I did everything I could to keep the score down. It was weird.”
Middletown scored eight times in the top of the first inning and Lower Lake answered with a grand slam in the bottom of the first to make it 8-4. Hoogendoorn went to his bullpen before his starter had recorded a single out. Releiver Isaac Perez ended up going the distance, pitching all five innings. He struck out eight and walked one.
“I’ve never been a part of anything like it,” Hoogendoorn said.
Middletown hosts Clear Lake in a battle of 2-0 league teams on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
