UPPER LAKE >> Rylan Robinson’ infield single to shortstop brought home the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Upper Lake High School junior varsity baseball team rallied from a five-run deficit to beat the Laytonville varsity 8-7 on Monday afternoon in Upper Lake.
Upper Lake (1-1) trailed 7-2 going to the bottom of the sixth inning but rallied for five runs to tie the game. J.T. Claunch smacked a bases-loaded double to drive in three runs and knot the score at 7-all.
Winning pitcher Andrew Brackett pitched a scoreless top of the eighth inning and the Cougars won it in the bottom half as Robinson legged out a two-out hit to bring home the winning run from third base.
Nathan O’Bryant went 2-for-3 with two doubles for the Cougars.
“He crushed the ball every time he hit it,” Upper Lake coach Billy Santos said of O’Bryant.
Upper Lake’s varsity, which has won five straight and is 6-1 on the season, returns to action Friday with a non-league doubleheader at Point Arena. First pitch is 2 p.m.
