ST. HELENA >> The rain was falling and the Kelseyville Knights and St. Helena Saints were scoreless through four innings on Friday afternoon in St. Helena.

Feeling a sense of urgency to get at least one run home in the top of the fifth, Kelseyville did even better by scoring five times in a rain-shortened 5-0 victory over the Saints at St. Helena. The game was called on account of the weather after the Saints were retired in the bottom of the fifth.

“We scratched one out,” Kelseyville coach Jeff Bour said. “I’m not complaining.”

Winning pitcher Allison Bryant blanked St. Helena (1-3) on three hits while striking out five and walking three on St. Helena’s all-weather turf field.

“Aly pitched a good game,” Bour said.

And that wasn’t easy to do because both the clay surface around the pitcher’s circle and home plate were drenched.

“They put stuff down to dry it out but it actually made things sticky,” Bour said.

The Knights received back-to-back walks to open the fifth and Taylor Paulich doubled home both runners to make it 2-0. After another walk, Paige Bour reached on a run-scoring fielder’s choice. Bib Hamner’s sacrifice fly made it 4-0 and Riley Goff later doubled and came around to score on a passed ball.

Bour, Maddie West, Grace Davidson and Tymeka Green also had hits for the Knights, now 3-0 in the league standings and 6-2 overlal.

Kelseyville plays at home Tuesday against Willits and Friday against Fort Bragg. Both games start at 4 p.m.
