A driver was killed early Friday when his car careened head-on into another on North State Street near the Thurston Auto Plaza, the California Highway Patrol reported.
According to the CHP, a driver, identified only as male, was northbound on North State Street north of Hensley Creek Road in a white 2010 Toyota Camry when for unknown reasons he veered into oncoming traffic around 1:35 a.m. April 7.
The Camry collided head-on with a black 2002 Ford Explorer heading south, then continued on to crash into a power pole and then into the Thurston Auto Plaza parking lot where it struck a Jeep. The Toyota and the Jeep then burst into flames, and the Jeep also hit a Chrysler parked nearby.
The driver of the Ford was a 26-year-old man from Cottonwood who suffered minor injuries, and his passengers were a 33-year-old Redwood Valley woman who suffered major injuries along with a 53-year-old Ukiah man. A fourth occupant, a 32-year-old Ukiah man, suffered moderate injuries.
The cause of the collision is under investigation.
