UKIAH >> Matt Wotherspoon’s round of 78 tied the Kelseyville High School junior for seventh place on Monday during the 31st annual Ukiah High School Invitational at the par-70 Ukiah Municipal Golf Course.

Kelseyville and Middletown competed in the 15-team tournament. Granada High School of Livermore finished first with 393 (the combined rounds of the low five scorers), St. Vincent of Petaluma came in second with 407 and Casa Grande of Petaluma was third with 417. Middletown finished 12th overall with 520 while Kelseyville’s team was incomplete (only four golfers).

Low round of the day went to Nick McClendan of team champion Granada with an even-par 70. Darren O’Neil of Livermore was the runner-up with 74 and Josh Canteub of California High School finished third with 75.

Wotherspoon carded two birdies during his round of 78. Derek Coulter led Middletown with a round of 91, including one birdie, and teammate Hayden Sust finished with 99.

The Ukiah course is still holding quite a bit of water from Friday’s storm and a wet winter in general, according to Kelseyville head coach John Berry, who said golfers didn’t receive much in the way of a roll following their shots because of the saturated soil.

Kelseyville and Middletown, both members of the Coastal Mountain Conference South, are scheduled to return to conference action Wednesday at Meadowood Golf Course in St. Helena, weather permitting. Last week’s CMC South match at Adams Springs Golf Course on Cobb Mountain was canceled because of wet conditions and high winds.
