ST. HELENA >> Starting their round 20 minutes early worked to perfection for the Coastal Mountain Conference South golfers on Wednesday during their match at the par-60 Meadowood Golf Club in St. Helena.
“It was a benign day with the temperature in the 60s,” Kelseyville coach John Berry said. “We finished up and the rain started falling. We couldn’t have timed it any better.”
St. Vincent remained unbeaten in the South standings with a winning score of 315 (the combined rounds of the four low scorers). Middletown was next with 326 while Kelseyville came in third with 332 and St. Helena was fourth with 358. Geyserville, Technology and Rincon Valley Christian were all incomplete (fewer than four golfers).
Among Lake County golfers in the field, Matt Wotherspoon of Kelseyville led the way with a 2-over-par 62 that featured two birdies.
“He was up and down,” Berry said of Wotherspoon’s round. “It’s a short-game course and he has the short game.”
Derek Coulter’s 68 with one birdie led Middletown while teammate Hayden Sust was just two shots back at 70. Quentin Crayne finished with 82. For Kelseyville, Mike Beverlin carded an 81.
Geyserville’s Carson Kalvfleish fired a 1-under-par 59 and Technology’s Teo Malo had a 74.
St. Vincent leads atop the South standings through four matches with a 24-0 record. Middletown is second at 19-5 with Kelseyville third at 17-7.
The CMC South returns to action Wednesday at Aetna Springs. Tee time is 2 p.m.
