UPPER LAKE >> Upper Lake High School junior Christina Wilson picked up another postseason honor on Sunday when she was named to the 2017 The California Wrestler High School All-Junior Girls Team.

The top three juniors in each weight division in the state were named to the team and Wilson, a third-place medalist at the CIF State Championships earlier this season, was honored on the Second Team at 126 pounds. Also honored at 126 pounds were Gracie Figueroa of Selma High School, who made the First Team, and Alexandra Ceballos of Inderkum High School, who made the Third Team. Figueroa won the state medal at 126 pounds this season while Ceballas came in fifth.

Wilson and Upper Lake teammate Adriana Lopez, who was sixth at the state championships in the 116-pound division, are the first two female state medalists in Upper Lake history.

Wilson is currently in the process of raising money for a trip to Japan in September. She was selected as a member of the American Kintaro world team and will be competing as part of a cultural exchange program. Teams from France, Russia and Brazil are also traveling to Japan. She needs to raise $4,500 before leaving for Japan on Sept. 17. Money raised will be used for travel costs, including airfare, lodging and team uniforms.

A GoFundMe account has been set up on Wilson’s behalf. If you would like to contribute, go to https://www.gofundme.com/help-send-christina-to-japan?d=156697822 and you can leave a donation.
