The Lake County Campus of Woodland College will celebrate Earth Day 2017 on Thursday, April 20. Student body officers Lena Murphy and Jermaine Gregoire are organizing the event.
Earth Day at the Lake County Campus will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. offering booths, entertainment, and resources to educate and inform the community on environmental, ecological and educational issues related to Earth Day.
“I am excited to invite our community to celebrate Earth Day and focus on our environment,” Gregoire said.
According to the federal website on the matter, “Earth Day is a time to celebrate gains we have made and create new visions to accelerate environmental progress. Earth Day is a time to unite around new actions. Earth Day and every day is a time to act to protect our planet.” Associated Student Body President Lena pointed out, “Earth and Wellness Fair is not only an opportunity for the students and faculty of Lake County Campus to come together, but also an opportunity for the campus and the community to collaborate. Through this sharing, we can all become more informed to improve our behavior toward the environment and our personal health.”
Live music will be performed during the event by a full and varied line up of talented students.
The award winning culinary program will sell lunch and provide information and tours of the “green restaurant.” There will be a full menu available inside the restaurant as well as a take-out menu outdoors.
Campus tours will be available for those wishing to view the entire facility and learn about the variety of courses and career path available at the college.
Activities involving baking with solar ovens, free raffle drawings and flower planting will take place.
Information booths include but are not limited to Audubon, Lake County Sierra Club, Lake County Land Trust, Anderson Marsh, Vector Control, Konocti Trails, Environmental Protection Agency, Lake County Co-op, Master Gardeners, and more.
