UPPER LAKE >> April 30 will mark the third anniversary for April Jackson as owner and operator of A.J’s Sewing Room in Upper Lake. A.J.’s specializes in sewing and quilting instruction for those who have never picked up a needle and thread to seasoned quilters looking for a place to quilt and share their craft with others.
The business initially opened its doors in downtown Upper Lake in April of 2014, sharing space in one of the downtown thrift stores. Within a year Jackson moved into her current location, requiring more space for her students and merchandise. Jackson currently has 16 students at her shop in Upper Lake, in addition to several students she teaches in Napa twice a month for the Suscol Inter-tribal Council.
“It was always my dream to have a place where people could come to learn how to sew and quilt at times that were convenient for them in an atmosphere that was friendly and comfortable,” Jackson said.
She has numerous awards for her quilting work and designs including 1st and 2nd place ribbons in the 2016 Boonville Fair and 2nd and 3rd place awards at the Lake County Fair in 2014. In addition, Jackson received 1st place ribbons for her gourd work and a 2nd place finish for her cake decorating.
Stop by and say hello to Jackson and some of her students Sunday April 30 between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. and in Jackson’s words, “Thank you to the many friends and family who have helped to make my dream a reality”.
There will be complimentary refreshments (homemade) as well as introductory offers for sewing and quilting classes. Merchandise includes fabric, notions, quilts and blankets and many other items of interest.
A.J.’s is located at 9495 Main Street, Suite 7, in Upper Lake.
