On April 27 the Soroptimist International of Clear Lake club will host a meeting on the topic of the health of Clear Lake. The topic was selected by the Program Meeting Chair, VP Brenda Crandall and featured speaker is County Supervisor Jim Steele.

A long-time advocate for a robust lake management program that promotes eco-tourism and a thriving economy, Steele is often asked by local groups and organizations to speak to issues related to the health of Clear Lake.

“Some say the lake is healthy, some say it’s not,” said Crandall. “We asked Supervisor Steele to speak because of his knowledge on the subject and background.”

Steele holds a BA in Biology and MA in Pollution Biology; has taught college level courses in freshwater ecology and environmental policy; worked for the State’s Fish and Wildlife Agency for almost 30 years; and is a registered professional forester. Prior to being elected County Supervisor, he was an active volunteer serving on local Boards and Committees. Steele also hosted a regular column in the Record-Bee, “Window on the Lake.” He still writes occasionally and has published many peer reviewed science articles.

The meeting will take place at Howard’s Grotto on 14732 Lakeshore Drive in Clearlake at 11:45 a.m. The cost is $14 and you must make reservations no later than Tuesday, April 25 by calling Ami Landrum at (707) 350-7419.
