MENDOCINO >> Clear Lake’s bid for a perfect Coastal Mountain Conference North golf season came up a bit short on the final day of the regular season as the Willits Wolverines edged out the Cardinals by three strokes on Tuesday at the par-72 Little River Golf Course on the Mendocino County coast.

Clear Lake (11-1) had beaten Willits and Fort Bragg in each of the previous five North matches to wrap up the title but couldn’t make it six matches in a row.

“It was all about being undefeated today,” Clear Lake coach Ted Mattila said.

Izak Walker of Willits fired the low round at Little River with a 103. Dylan McGuire led Clear Lake with a 107.

Also for the Cardinals, Brenden Allen carded 111, Nolan Williams had 120 and Sierra Powers finished with 127.

A handful of North golfers will advance to the North Coast Section Championships on May 8 at Rooster Run in Petaluma, but Mattila said he wasn’t sure who those five golfers would be. They will be announced at a later date.
