Students enrolled full-time during their first term of community college are more likely to continue their studies and to earn an associate degree than are their peers who enroll part-time, a study of more than 17,000 transcripts at 28 community colleges indicates.
The study, released Wednesday by the Texas-based Center for Community College Student Engagement, indicates that enrolling full-time for even one semester or quarter increases the likelihood of earning an associate degree or certificate.
A separate part of the survey, based on queries to nearly 61,000 students, found that a greater percentage of part-time enrollees never talk to an adviser or instructor and never work with classmates outside class.
