MENDCINO COUNTY >> The Grapevine Quilters of Mendocino County will feature local quilt artist, Laura Fogg, at their “Quilts in Bloom” quilt show on May 6 and 7, at the Redwood Empire Fairgrounds. There will be an opportunity to talk to Laura and see her techniques as well as 100 plus quilts made by local quilters. As a bonus, there will be vendors, raffle baskets, a country store, a silent auction and the chance to make a project and take it home when you have finished it.
Laura Fogg has been a quilter for 20 years. She has an art minor from UC Berkeley. After spending many years as a special education teacher teaching Orientation and Mobility for the Blind, she turned her focus to applying her drawing and painting skills to the art of quilting. She makes collage picture quilts using home, food and nature as her primary subjects. She has shown her quilts at many of the large shows across the country, been a guest artist on television and in magazine articles. She has also won a number of awards.
The “Quilts in Bloom” show will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The Make and Take program will feature the opportunity to make either a heart-shaped potholder or some Christmas napkins. Sewing machines will be there for people to use and kits will be available for purchase. Check the program for times.
