SANTA ROSA >> Homeowners at Burbank Housing’s Catalina Townhomes community on Thursday afternoon received keys to the homes they constructed with their own hands.
Catalina Townhomes is a sweat-equity development by Burbank Housing offering affordable homes to eligible buyers who meet income requirements. For residence, homeowners needed to fall below 80 percent of area median income and have not owned a home in the last three years.
Each family contributed over 2,000 hours of sweat equity to build their home.
“We’re proud to enable more Santa Rosa residents become home owners,” said Larry Florin, CEO, Burbank Housing. “Each of these residents has invested their hard earned savings, as well as countless hours wearing a tool belt and hardhat, to make their dream of home ownership a reality. Thanks to their tireless efforts, these are not just houses but homes where residents can create lasting memories.”
Each of the 63 homes is on its own lot with a private front patio and an attached two-car garage. The homes include many green features and components chosen to help reduce energy, water use, and protect the environment.
The homes average 1,500 square feet and the typical Catalina Townhomes household has between three and four residents.
Catalina Townhomes is located at 2740 Dutton Meadows in Santa Rosa.
