MIDDLETOWN >> Jack Sisson came within an out of throwing a no-hitter on Friday afternoon as the undefeated Middletown High School junior varsity baseball team shut out the Lower Lake Trojans 10-0 in North Central League I action in Middletown.

An infield single broke up the no-hitter with two outs in the top of the sixth inning and the Mustangs (8-0 league, 16-0 overall) leading 9-0. Sisson retired the next batter and Middletown went on to score another run in the bottom of the inning, at which point the 10-run rule came into effect.

“He completely dominated them,” Middletown coach Jon Hoogendoorn said of Sisson. “He was in full control the entire way.”

Sisson settled for a one-hitter that featured 10 strikeouts and three walks. He also went 2-for-2 at the plate with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Middletown scored in every inning but stranded too many runners for Hoogendoorn’s liking.

“We left a bunch of guys on base,” Hoogendoorn said. “Our bats have been a little slow lately but someone is going to pay the price here pretty soon.”

Jon Hoogendoorn Jr. went 2-for-2 and both Drake Harbison and Jaden Trueblood went 1-for-3 with a RBI.

Middletown hits the road Tuesday to play Clear Lake in Lakeport at 4 p.m. The Mustangs remain on the road May 5 to play St. Helena.

In other JV action Friday:

Clear Lake 9, Kelseyville 2

At Kelseyville, Darius Ford pitched 6 2/3 innings for the win, allowing just three hits, and the Clear Lake Cardinals improved to 5-3 in the NCL I standings and 5-5 overall with a win over the Kelseyville Knights.

Ford struck out six and walked three.

Blair Hayes led the Cardinals at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four four RBIs. Preston Jones went 2-for-5 with the Cardinals’ lone extra-base hit, a triple, and Josh Damiata went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Clear Lake hosts undefeated Middletown (8-0, 16-0) on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
