LAKEPORT >> After two Saturdays of racing were washed out by Mother Nature, the 2017 season finally opened Saturday at Lakeport Speedway where the Taco Bell Bombers, Jammers, Limited Modifieds, T&T Towing Jalopies and S&K Automotive Midgets were in action on the quarter-mile paved oval at the Lake County Fairgrounds.
“The car count was decent, the fans were excited to be here and I think the community is ready to see some racing,” racing promoter David Furia said.
Bombers
Raymond Taylor of Laytonville won the second heat race before piloting his 2T bomber to a win in the bomber main event.
Other winners were Ukiah’s Kevin Brackett in the trophy dash and Rick Tommila of Upper Lake in the first bomber heat.
Jammers
David Sanchez of Lakeport was the only junior jammer driver as he won the heat race and main event. In the pro jammer competition, Elizabeth Ingals from Clearlake drove her No. 62 car to a win in the trophy dash while Ukiah driver Dave Rogers won both the heat race and main event in his No. 2 car.
Modifieds
In the first race for the new Limited Modified division, Upper Lake’s Bradley Brackett won the trophy dash and heat race, but it was Ian Elliott of Lakeport who took the checkered flag in the main event.
T&T Jalopies
Dennis Anderson of Willits drove his No. 27 car through the mud and dirt to win both the heat race and main event.
S&K Midgets
Scott Pierovich from Lodi won the first heat race before taking the checkered flag in the midget main event. Maria Cofer from Macdoel won the trophy dash and second heat race.
Special event
The speedway is offering a July Party Pack. Fans can purchase five nights of racing plus their choice of Independence Day fireworks shows at either the Lakeport or Ukiah tracks for a discounted price of $45 for adults, $35 for senior citizens and students, and $25 for children. Ticket packages are pre-purchase only and can be ordered at Brownpapertickets.com.

Racing returns to Lakeport on Saturday and will feature a special visit from the North State Modified Series and points leader Darrin Knight of Kelseyville, the 2016 points champion. The racing card also features the bombers, Legends, bandoleros and Pro-4 modifieds. Ticket prices are $12 for adults, $9 for senior citizens and students, and $6 for children ages 6-11. Children 5 and younger are free. A family pack is also available for $30 that admits two adults and three children.
