On April 12 about 40 students and family members attended the most recent in a series of Family Fun Nights at Terrace Middle School.
Family Fun Night is an event Lakeport Unified School District has hosted in its mission to increase parent involvement through education and creative activities with students and parents.
“The Family Fun Nights have been quite a success,” said Erin Smith-Hagberg, Superintendent of Lakeport Unified. “We are committed to helping build strong parent child relationships with Family Fun Nights. A strong relationship within the family creates better communication at home and encourages students to succeed at school. It’s a win-win”
On Family Fun Nights there are games, prizes, activities and food, as well as, access to local community representatives who are there to educate parents and students of their services. Schad Schweitzer, Student and Family Advocate, has done an excellent job promoting these events with help from both staff and students. The Director of Student Services, Joe Aldridge also takes part in these events by grilling hamburgers for the families.
By strengthening these families children are more likely to succeed in school. Family Fun Nights help encourage positive behavior, help children become responsible and help parents and children communicate while in a school setting. The best part, they have fun doing so! The District has received so much positive feedback about the Family Fun Nights, they plan to continue them throughout the next school year.
