Ukiah police found a loaded gun on a homeless man while searching him on Monday, the Ukiah Police Department reported.

Officers approached a man in the 600 block of South Orchard Avenue at 9:37 a.m. and asked if he had any weapons on him. The man, identified as 25-year-old Brett Michael Adame of Florissant, Mo., replied that he had a prybar hidden in his waistband. Concerned with safety, an officer patted him down and found the prybar along with a loaded 45-caliber semi-auotmatic handgun.

Adame was detained while officers continued to investigate. They found through a records check of the gun that it was stolen in Florissant, Mo. Reviewing Adame’s criminal history, they found he had prior felony convictions.

Adame was arrested on suspicion of a felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition and possession of a billy club, and booked into county jail, held under $25,000 bail.
