UPPER LAKE >> On Saturday, May 6, the Lake County Land Trust’s Rodman Preserve & Nature Center will be hosting a free, family-friendly Art & Nature Day as part of the California Council of Land Trusts “Take It Outside, California!”.
Featured local artists will include Ruth Stierna, Yelena Zhargonova, Ben Steenberger, Diana Liebe, Carolyn Hawley, Steve Bellah, RAML (the collaborative team of Ricia Araiza & Michael Leventhal), Kathleen Scavone, Richard Schmidt, and Jim Warren. They will be displaying artwork related to the theme “Clear Lake and its Inhabitants”, in mediums ranging from watercolor painting to photography (color as well as black and white), pottery, pencil drawings, acrylic paint, and more. Art will be available for purchase, with 40% of artists’ sales generously supporting the Land Trust’s efforts to preserve historically and environmentally important Lake County lands.
In keeping with the art theme, sketching stations will be positioned around the Preserve, with sketchbooks and graphite pencils for those inspired by their surroundings or the art displays. Live music by Tom, Rick and Harry; Hula hooping; nature hikes; hand drawn temporary tattoos; and al fresco yoga sessions will all be part of the festivities. Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn about various county organizations who will be there to share information and resources. Refreshments will be available for purchase, but packing a lunch and picnicking amongst the oaks is highly encouraged.
The 1.5 mile hikes will be docent led, at a slow to moderate pace, with guides pointing out native flora and fauna as well as special features of the Rodman Preserve and Clear Lake. Binoculars will be made available during guided hikes.
