LOWER LAKE >> Lower Lake High School’s wrestling team recently honored its wrestlers during the annual awards night.

While the Trojans barely missed winning a third straight Coastal Mountain Conference championship in 2017, they did make school history by receiving the North Coast Section Division II Scholastic Team Champion pennant for excellence in the classroom. It’s not only the wrestling team’s first scholastic pennant, but the first for any sports team at Lower Lake.

Lower Lake’s wrestlers also were able to hammer their nameplates onto the walls of the wrestling room for achieving various honors during the season such as section medalist, tournament MVP, league MVP, section dual placer and CMC champion.

Athletes also received awards ranging from most escapes, reversals, takedowns, pins and wins.

All team members received Scholastic Team Champion certificates as well as T-shirts marking the occasion.

“It was an honor go give our wrestlers T-shirts that represented their hard work in the classroom and on the mat,” Lower Lake head coach Ed Fuchs said.

Of the 23 Lower Lake wrestlers who completed the 2016-17 season, 22 are returning for the 2017-18 season, according to Fuchs.
