LAKE COUNTY >> Matt Wotherspoon didn’t play for the winning team in the Coastal Mountain Conference South this season, but the Kelseyville High School junior golfer was the circuit’s low scorer in 2017, a fact not lost on CMC coaches when they recently selected the All-South squad.
Wotherspoon was voted most valuable player on the South squad after leading the Knights to a third-place finish behind champion St. Vincent (Petaluma) and Middletown.
Joining Wotherspoon on the All-South squad are first-team selections Max Kleinecke of St. Vincent, a sophomore; Carson Kalbfleisch, a Geyserville senior; Teo Malo, a Technology High senior; Graham Giles, a St. Vincent junior; Derek Coulter, a Middletown sophomore; Hayden Sust, a Middletown senior; and Trenton Starrett, a St. Vincent senior.
Earning second-team honors were St. Vincent juniors Justin Peck and Catie Hood, Middleotwn junior Quentin Crayne, Kelseyville juniors Mike Beverlin and Jon Vanderwall, Technology junior Jeremy Mota, Rincon Valley Christian senior Ray Chau, and St. Helena senior Austin Zimmerman.
Wotherspoon just missed qualifying for next week’s Tournament of Champions after losing in a playoff for the final at-large berth during the North Coast Section Championships on Monday at Rooster Run Golf Club in Petaluma.
