LAKEPORT >> The Lakeport Sprint Boat Grand Prix is scheduled to take place June 3-4 just offshore from Library Park in Lakeport.

Event chairman Jack Long has been busy preparing the event location, filing the permits and promoting the race along with building up a sponsorship base.

“It takes all kinds of people to make this event happen, from the race management team taking tickets and managing the crowds to the watercraft crew securing the perimeter,” Long said. “We have been promoting this event on Facebook and on the website. It is building quite the momentum and we encourage local people to join us in the fun.”

Long said volunteers are needed to make the event a success. Adults (age 18 and older) can go to www.sprintboatgrandprix.com and click on the volunteer tab to sign up.

“There are going to be a lot of exciting boat races on Clear Lake and we think people are going to want to be a part of it,” Long said.

Volunteers are needed for two specific areas. People who have access to boats or personal watercraft are needed to line and secure the racing perimeter. You can work one or both days and will receive as many complimentary general tickets as days worked. There is a need for 40 such boat or personal watercraft drivers.

Volunteers are also needed as ticket takers, gate monitors and for general support of the management team. Approximately 20 of these volunteers are needed. They will receive a general admission ticket for each day they work.

Vendors are also being accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. With a large crowd expected, this is a prime opportunity for service organizations or vendors to make money. The vending rate is a flat $100 per day and no additional fees are taken out. Vendors keep 100 percent of what they sell. No duplication in vendors is permitted.

Vendors can go to www.sprintboatgrandprix.com and click on the vendor tab for more information and to apply for a spot.

Local sponsors of the Lakeport Sprint Boat Grand Prix include Twin Pine Casino, Steele Wines, Ruzicka and Associates, Valley Oaks, Kelseyville Lumber, Eagle Distributing, Chacewater Winery and Olive Mill, Furia Construction, 94.5 Kwine, Max 93.5, Bicoastal Media and the Lake County Fair.
