The names of 394 officers will be honored with an inscription on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. In Lake County, there were no deaths in the line of duty, although officers daily face risks. And one Clearlake police officer was seriously injured in a scuffle.

Celli said he cannot take all the credit for the work he and the department has done in Clearlake. He and his staff have put in countless hours working and striving to protect the city and doing jobs they need to get done.

“The department can run without a chief, but a chief can’t be a chief without the department,” Celli said.

There are around 900,000 law enforcement officers who serve in communities across the Country and in 2015 there have been over 15,000 assaults against the officers that resulted in 14,453 injuries.

Deaths of officers have been recorded since 1791 and since then there have been more than 20,000 officers killed while protecting the community they serve.
