SANTA ROSA >> Sophomore Kelsey Lemoine is one of three Middletown athletes and one of four Lake County athletes headed to the Meet of Champions (MOC) after placing third or higher on Saturday during the North Coast Section Class A Track and Field Championships at Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa.

The MOC opens Friday and runs through Saturday at U.C. Berkeley. It’s the qualifier for the CIF State Championships on June 2-3 in Clovis. Athletes placing third or higher at the MOC advance to the state meet.

Lemoine was the only Lake County athlete to win an event at the Class A Championships and the talented sprinter made a pretty good run at winning two. She finished first in the 100 meters (12.62 seconds) and second in the 200 (26.84). She’ll be joined at the MOC by Middletown teammates Amy Herrmann, who finished third in the pole vault (7 feet, 6 inches) and Colton Hall, who placed third in the boys discus (132-8).

Clear Lake’s Paige Woodruff also made the MOC cut, clearing 8-0 in the girls pole vault to finish second.

A handful of Middletown athletes just finished outside of the top three in their individual events. Taelor Roderick was fourth in the girls shotput at 30-5 ¼ while Hanna Morris was fourth in the discus at 91-10. Colleen Schminasky tied for fourth in the high jump at 4-8 and Evan Dodd was fourth in the boys pole vault at 7-6.

Among other top finishes by county girls, Middletown’s Schimansky and Alyssa Hart finished eighth and ninth in the 100 hurdles at 18.41 and 18.93 seconds, respectively, and Middletown’s Herrmann tied for ninth in the high jump at 4-6.

Middletown’s Morris was sixth in the shotput at 29-10 ½ and Kelseyville’s Brianne Henry was ninth at 27-8 ¾. Middletown’s Roderick was ninth in the discus at 79-10.

Among Lake County’s boys, Jack Farris of Kelseyville placed sixth in the 100 (11.33) and eighth in the 200 (23.45), and Middletown’s Brenden Steele was eighth in the 400 (53.42). Jeffrey Morris of Middletown tied for seventh in the high jump at 5-6 while Kesleyville’s Damian Ledesma was seventh in the long jump at 19-6 ¾.
