LAKEPORT >> Detectives from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office arrested three men for the alleged possession of child pornography, the last on May 18.

In custody are Daniel Wood, 35 of Middletown, Clearlake Oaks resident Scott Davis, 44, and Jose Mendoza, a 24-year-old from Upper Lake.

The cases are believed by investigators to be unrelated.

Extensive investigations by the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit led to the arrests. The pursuit, conducted through the spring, involved numerous search warrants of residences, electronic devices and service providers.

According to LCSO Lt. Steve Brooks, detectives uncovered “tens of thousands” of images and movies involving child pornography.

Wood was arrested on April 19 after detectives received information alleging possession of child pornography. He was initially arrested for parole violation, but a search and investigation brought the additional charge related to child pornography.

A warrant following a tip and investigation led to the arrest of Davis on April 30. Mendoza was taken into custody on May 18 after authorities received a warrant.

“These investigations were the result of Cybertips sent to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit,” Brooks said in a statement released on Tuesday.

All three subjects remain in custody at the Hill Road Correctional Facility as of press time.
