A Lakeport man was admitted into the Jail-Based Competency program last week after being recently bumped up to number one on the waiting list.
William Richard Gatlyn, 27, was arrested for allegedly killing his dog with a machete during a 2016 incident in which he also allegedly issued vague threats to others. The decision was announced in Lake County Superior Court during his review hearing on a charge of felony animal cruelty.
During a previous hearing, Department of State Hospitals Attorney Paula Riese informed the court that the defendant is approved for admission into the JBCT (Jail-Based Competency) Program.
Last week’s Review Hearing was presided over by Stephen Hedstrom, as the Court received notification from the Department of State Hospitals that Gatlyn was admitted to the JBCT Program at the San Bernardino County West Valley Detention on May 11.
Attorney Christopher Iwobi with the Department of State Hospitals was present by court call with Deputy District Attorney Susan Krones and Defense Attorney Mitchell Hauptman present as well.
The matter is continued to July 11 at 8:15 a.m. for a 90 Day Review in Department 4 as an extension regarding the report of progress toward recovery of mental competence has been requested.
The defendant is ordered to be present.
