BERKELEY >> Lake County’s four entries in the North Coast Section Meet of Champions on Friday at Edwards Stadium on the U.C. Berkeley campus came up short in their quest to reach the CIF State Track and Field Championships on June 2-3 in Clovis.
Taking part from Lake County were Middletown’s Kelsey Lemoine in the girls 100 meters and 200 meters, Clear Lake’s Paige Woodruff and Middletown’s Amy Herrmann in the girls pole vault, and Middletown’s Colton Hall in the boys discus.
Lemoine, the 100-meter champion at last weekend’s NCS Class A Championships in Santa Rosa, finished 16th out of 24 in the 100 with a time of 12.87 seconds. The sophomore needed to run 12.56 or faster to qualify for Saturday’s finals. Chinyere Okoro of Amador Valley had the top time at 11.91, the only competitor to crack 12 seconds.
In the 200 held later in the day, Lemoine ran 21st out of 24 with a time of 27.04. A time of 25.59 or faster was needed to advance to the finals. Alexis Surrell of Newark Memorial ran the fastest at 24.51.
In the pole vault finals, Woodruff was 19th out of 24 competitors with a mark of 8 feet, 2 inches. Winner Julia Wang of Las Lomas cleared 12-6. Herrmann did not clear the opening height of 8-2.
In the boys discus, Hall finished second in flight one with a toss of 135-5 but 14th overall in the 24-man field. Jeffrey Williams of Clayton Valley topped the field at 187-5 while runner-up Iffy Joyner of Pittsburg was close behind at 183-0.
