LAKEPORT >> Some Lake County residents felt a 3.5 magnitude earthquake that hit briefly on Monday morning.
The temblor was recorded by the U.S. Geological Survey at 11: 21 a.m. The epicenter was 7 miles north of Cloverdale near Highway 101.
Although it was quick, lasting no more than a second, the earthquake shook structures in Lakeport and Kelseyville. Residents reported vibrations and bangs as structures were jolted.
“The whole house shook,” one Lakeport woman reported in a Facebook message.
USGS maps located the shallow event near the Wight Way Fault, along the Maacama Fault Zone. It measured as a weak earthquake, but was felt as far north as Lakeport and Hopland, as far east as the Kelseyville-Finley area.
One person in San Francisco reported to the USGS, as well.
There were no reports of damage, just curiousity. Many were uncertain that an earthquake occurred following the mild jolt.
