KELSEYVILLE >> Three men died in the early morning hours Saturday in a fiery Kelseyville collision.

The violent single car accident occurred at approximately 2:20 a.m. California Highway Patrol investigators report that the vehicle — a 2010 Chevy Camaro — was traveling well beyond the speed limit on Gold Dust Drive.

According to CHP Sgt. Nenad Gorenec, the vehicle raced through the Wilson Road intersection, crossed the road and smashed into a metal fence. This impact apparently caused the vehicle to veer sharply. The car then slammed hard into a tree and exploded in flames.

Investigators believe the three died instantly upon impact with the tree.

The CHP has not yet identified the victims. All three bodies were severely burned in the resulting fire. Confirmation of their identities is expected later this week.

While speed was considered a factor in the accident, authorities do not yet know if alcohol or drugs contributed.

Fire crews from the Kelseyville Fire Protection District extinguished the blaze.
