HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE >> A 20-year-old Hidden Valley Lake woman was allegedly shot and killed by her father on Tuesday night.

The incident took place in a home in the 18000 block of Spyglass Drive in Hidden Valley. According to a prepared statement issued by Lake County Sheriff Brian Martin, an initial investigation concluded that Hannah Welch had died from a gunshot wound.

A few minutes after locating the body, deputies took Steven Miller into custody. Miller, 39, was apprehended in the neighborhood, having left the residence.

Sheriff’s deputies and medical personnel from Cal Fire responded to the address at approximately 8:15 p.m. after dispatchers received a call reporting that a man had just shot his daughter.

Upon arrival, first responders contacted the reporting party, who was the maternal grandmother of the victim and mother of the suspect. First responders also checked the victim for signs of life.

At the time of the statement, Miller was still in the booking process at the Lake County Jail. He was initially questioned at the Sheriff’s Office by LCSO detectives and then transported to the hospital as part of a standard medical clearing procedure.

In the statement, Martin pointed out that detectives had yet to determine a motive. He added that no other victims or suspects had been identified.

An autopsy will be conducted as part of the final investigation.

Martin asked that if you have any information concerning this investigation, to please contact Lake County Sheriff’s Detective Richard Kreutzer at (707) 262-4233.
