LAKEPORT >> Konocti Christian Academy’s (KCA) 12th Annual Renaissance Faire on May 6 was a tremendous success. Over 330 guests were transported back in time to the 15th century Renaissance era with song, play, and food.
Kindergarten students entertained the crowd by reciting “The 12 Days of Shakespeare.” First and second grade students recited three of Shakespeare’s sonnets, while adding hand-held signs for drama. The third and fourth graders’ performance of “Kids in Lurve” (children’s version of the comedy “The Taming of the Shrew”) impressed the crowd with their comedy and theatric skill.
Fifth and sixth grade students amazed the audience with Shakespeare’s “The Rude Mechanicals.” The junior high students presented the high drama of “Macbeth” but with the twist of a 1930s setting.
All the productions were held at the Little Theatre at the Lake County Fairgrounds.
Guests enjoyed a gourmet luncheon while being serenaded by the musical talents of “Ye Merry Band.” Both live and silent auctions were offered, and we thank all our auction donors and faire sponsors for their generous support.
The junior high class participated in a fencing tournament, and everyone enjoyed many booths and activities within the “meadow” inside Lewis Hall. Archery offered a hands-on experience of shooting the wild game targets; amusing games and crafts were an on-going crowd pleaser for all ages; leather-working afforded insights into this intriguing skill; face-painting and hands-on jewelry crafting were also favorites; the brass rubbings booth entertained with the opportunity to create art; and last but not least, Ye Olde Shoppe and Canterbury Cafe offered trinkets, handcrafted items, medieval novelties and refreshments for faire-goers.
