UKIAH >> Lake County’s top baseball talent will be on display one last time Sunday when the ninth annual Senior All-Star Baseball Game takes place at Mendocino College in Ukiah. First pitch is 12:15 p.m. as the East squad takes on the West squad.
The Cloverdale American Legion is the game’s sponsor. While admission is free to the game, donations are encouraged, according to game director Juan Jauregui, who said all proceeds are used to fund future All-Star games. A snack shack also will be open during the game.
“Whatever we raise goes back into the program so that we can hold future All-Star games,” Jauregui said. “It’s a great event and a lot of fun.”
Lake County’s five high schools will comprise the bulk of the East squad. Seniors who have committed to the team, which will be coached by Kelseyville’s Lou Poloni, are Kyle Ellis, Logan Barrick, Jonah Lewis and Dillon Hawley of Kelseyville, Jordan Fowler, Ryan Perry, Ty Chorjel Trevor LaFave and Ezekiel Perez of Middletown, Ethan Watson, Jordan McGrath and Reed Diener of Lower Lake, Alejandro Sanchez, Dre Santos, Carson Whitfield and Francisco Gregorio-Flores of Upper Lake, and Ryan Damiata, Cody Dillsaver, Hunter Daily, Jake Jackson and Max De Leon of Clear Lake.
The West squad will be coached by Rick Yadon of Willits. Among the West players who have committed to the game are Patrick Ojeda of Cloverdale, Toni Pardini of Anderson Valley, Lucas Montez of Willits, Lucas Triplett of Fort Bragg and Tyler Meinhofer of Technology.
Players from additional high schools may be added during the sign-up process and will be assigned to either the East or West rosters as appropriate, according to Jauregui.
The East defeated the West 10-5 a year ago, avenging a 6-2 loss to the West in 2015.
