LAKEPORT >> Third St. and Fifth St. boat ramps in Lakeport will close on Friday at midnight in advance of the weekend’s Sprint Boat Grand Prix. They will remain off limits through Sunday, June 4 at 6 p.m.
The boat races take place on Saturday and Sunday near the shoreline of downtown Lakeport. For the duration of the event, the Library Park gazebo and the land north to Fifth Street will open for paid admission only.
South of the gazebo in Library Park will remain open to the public.
City streets will be affected by the races. In addition to traffic, two downtown streets will be closed.
Fourth St. at Main St. and Fifth St. at Main St. will be blocked off beginning at midnight on Friday through Sunday, June 4, at 6 p.m. Motorists wishing to attend are encouraged to find alternate routes of travel and parking during the event.
Designated parking will be available at Natural High School located at 800 N. Main St.
For those wishing to enjoy the lake, other boat ramps remain open. For example, the boat ramp at Clearlake Ave. in Lakeport is available, even during the races. Parking for those who launch at Clearlake Ave. is permitted at the Dutch Harbor property located at 910 N. Main St.
The following County boat ramps will be open and available for launching and are within 20 minutes of Lakeport:
Hamilton boat launch located at 2815 Lakeshore Blvd. in Lakeport, California
Lakeside County Park located at 1985 Park Dr. in Kelseyville, California
Keeling Park located at 3000 Lakeshore Dr. in Nice, California
Lucerne Harbor located at 6225 E. Hwy 20 in Lucerne, California
The Lakeport Police Department has set up a Nixle notification system for the event. To receive updates and information text the word sprintboat to 888777.
The LPD will also have a command post set up at City Hall Chambers during the event for those who wish to stop by or have questions.
