UPPER LAKE >> Dre Santos of Upper Lake High School helped the Cougars reach the North Coast Section playoffs for the first time since 2001 and the senior was recently rewarded by being named to the All-North Central League II first team following a vote of the league’s coaches.

Santos, one of four Upper Lake players to land a spot somewhere on the All-League team, which is divided into first and second teams and honorable mentions, put up solid numbers for a 9-11 Upper Lake squad throughout the 2017 campaign. He batted a team-leading .443 and also led the Cougars in hits (27), runs (30) and doubles (8). A fairly consistent run producer as well, Santos ranked third on the team with 17 runs batted in.

While Santos was the only Upper Lake player to make the first team, two of his teammates were named to the second team. Sophomore Armando Santos and senior Carson Whitfield, both of whom made significant contributions to the Cougars’ success this season, were honored by the league’s coaches.

A fourth Upper Lake player, senior Francisco Gregorio-Flores, received an honorable mention.

League champion St. Vincent dominated the All-League selections. Eight Mustangs were honored, including most valuable player Michael Davis, a senior, and first-team selections Nick Murphy and Jack Romano, both seniors, and junior Reno Nalducci.
