LAKE COUNTY >> When you run the table in league play two years in a row, the odds are pretty good you not only have the most valuable player on your team, but several of them.
So when it came time to choose the MVP for the All-North Central League I baseball team, Kelseyville head coach Lou Poloni had a couple of leading candidates in pitcher Logan Barrick and shortstop Kyle Ellis, both seniors. Barrick went undefeated not only in league play but on the season, his 13-0 record setting the Lake County mark for most wins in a single season and tying the mark for best single-season winning percentage. Ellis led the Knights in most offensive categories with Barrick close behind.
Rather than choose one or the other, Poloni made the Solomon-like decision and nominated the two for co-MVP honors, which the other league coaches had no problem approving.
Kelseyville, 14-0 in the league standings both this season and in 2016, had five other players honored as well. Jonah Lewis, a senior and second on the Knights with 29 RBIs, was named to the All-League first team as were Lower Lake senior Ethan Watson and Middletown seniors Ty Chorjel and Trevor LaFave.
The All-League second team featured Kelseyville sophomore Adrian Villalobos and junior teammates Randy Pfann and Jason Gentle, Middletown junior Thomas Cook and Middletown senior Jordan Fowler and Clear Lake senior Jake Jackson.
Lake County players securing honorable mentions were Clear Lake juniors Alex Adams and Jason Garrison and senior Codi Dillsaver, Lower Lake senior Jordan McGrath, Middletown junior Isaiah Moore, and Kelseyville junior Junior Gonzalez.
