LAKEPORT >> The Lake County Superior Court increased bail for Steven Russell Miller to $2 million during a recent hearing.
Miller, who is suspected of murder in the death of his daughter last month, had been scheduled to enter a plea. However, Judge Stephen Hedstrom postponed the plea hearing until June 27. Instead, the court appointed Public Defender Anakalia Sullivan to represent Miller and raised his bail amount.
Miller faces charges of murder and exhibiting a weapon for the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Hannah Welch of Hidden Valley Lake.
The incident took place in a home in the 18000 block of Spyglass Drive in Hidden Valley on the evening of May 30.
According to Lake County Sheriff’s Office reports, Miller left the residence after allegedly firing on Welch and hitting her at least once. Deputies were able to track him down quickly and took him into custody.
The incident was reported to law enforcement by Miller’s mother, who reportedly told law enforcement officers Miller had shot his daughter.
