UPDATED:

A man was killed Saturday when he was crushed by a car near the Talmage Bridge, the Ukiah Valley Fire Authority reported.

UVFA Capt. Pete Bushby said the man’s wife reported that the couple was trying to push their BMW sedan up a hillside near the Russian River access off Talmage Road just east of Babcock Lane around 4 p.m. June 10 when the car rolled over the man, crushing his upper body.

Bushby said by the time UVFA crews arrived, the victim had no pulse and was declared deceased.

On Sunday, the California Highway Patrol identified the man as Charles Welch, 57, of Yreka, and reported that he was standing in front of the stalled vehicle and trying to push it up the hill while his wife was inside it when the BMW rolled forward, crushing him.

The CHP reports that it is still investigating the incident. Cal Fire and VeriHealth personnel also responded.
