Coach Mike Sullivan, a UC Davis rowing coach, will be teaching the basics necessary to be part of an eight person team boat and to row a single person scull. He will start with how to get in and out of the boat, understanding the commands, stopping and turning the boat. After the basics are mastered, rowing with power — power that comes from your legs, back and arms in one smooth motion.
People at any level of fitness can participate in this sport and work out at their comfort level.
Rowing for adults will be taught on July 3 and July 5 through 7 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. for $100, which includes summer membership and use of club boats. Youth and High School sessions will be held from July 1 to July 7, with teens starting at 8 a.m. and younger youths at 10:30 a.m. The focus will be on paddling skills and water safety.

Adults and teens are also welcome to join on the team boat every Saturday at 8 a.m. through the end of August, no experience necessary.
Membership is open to the public and there is rowing year round, weather permitting. The goal of Clear Lake Scullers is to provide broad access to beautiful Clear Lake and to expose people to a wide variety of aquatic sports with emphasis on safety and competence.
Sullivan is also available to teach the skills necessary for athletes to train and race.
