LAKE COUNTY >> Graduated seniors Chelsie Valdez of Upper Lake High School and Logan Barrick of Kelseyville High School were recently honored by the Coastal Mountain Officials Association with $500 scholarships that they can use toward their college educations.

The scholarship, which was awarded by the CMOA for the first time, was open to seniors from all five county high schools. Each high school was asked to submit the name of one male and female for consideration as long as they met the following criteria – maintained at least a 3.0 GPA in the classroom, participated in at least two sports during their senior year, demonstrated leadership skills and participated in community service.

A total of seven students were nominated for the award and the CMOA members selected Valdez (soccer, softball) and Barrick (football, basketball, baseball).

The CMOA hopes to make the senior scholarship award an annual event.
