LAKEPORT >> They’ve got the rings to prove it.
The Kelseyville 10-11 Little League All-Stars rolled through the District 2 Tournament, capping a 5-0 run with a 9-2 victory over Peach Bowl of Yuba City on Sunday afternoon at Gary Pickle Field in Lakeport. Westshore Little League hosted this year’s All-Star competition.
Not long after Logan DeChaine pitched a complete game to seal Kelseyville’s win over Peach Bowl to wrap up the week-long tournament, team members received championship pins provided by District 2 and championship rings provided by Jesse Smart, the president of Westshore Little League and this year’s District 2 All-Star Tournament director.
“Jesse ordered the rings for the kids. They were pretty cool,” Kelseyville All-Stars manager Melanie Barrick said. “Jesse and his crew did a great job (running the tournament),” Barrick added. “The fields looked great, the ladies in the booth did great and there were always two to three quality umps.”
En route to the championship round, Kelseyville beat Sutter Buttes 9-8 on July 1, Peach Bowl 9-6 on July 2, Westshore 9-5 on July 5 and Colusa 11-0 on Friday. Because the competition is a double-elimination event, Peach Bowl needed to beat undefeated Kelseyville twice in the championship round to win the tournament.
Kelseyville team members include 11-year-old All-Stars DeChaine (pitcher/first base), Joey Gentle (catcher, pitcher, utility), Andrew Huggins (pitcher/outfield/utility), Luke Watkins (center field), Shane Poff (pitcher/third base) and Collin Jensen (pitcher/right field). The team’s 10-year-old All-Stars are Tyler Bryant (pitcher/shortstop), Kyle Watkins (second base), Brock Barrick (pitcher/catcher/infield), Leland Cervelli (right field), Dominic Greene (left field) and Gene Holdenried (left field).
DeChaine, Barrick, Gentle and Bryant pitched the majority of Kelseyville’s innings during the tournament and Gentle also starred behind the plate for Kelseyville, according to Barrick.
DeChaine, Watkins and Bryant hit home runs for the Kelseyville All-Stars. Barrick led the team with a .467 batting average while Gentle’s on-base percentage was an eye-popping .750. Gentle also stole home twice.
While Barrick served as manager for the All-Stars, she was assisted by coaches John Barrick, John DeChaine, Chad Poff and Logan Barrick.
The Kelseyville All-Stars advance to sectional competition on Friday in Anderson.
