ANDERSON >> The Kelseyville Little League 10-11 All-Stars gave it their best but couldn’t come away with a win in their two games during the Section 2 Tournament on Friday and Saturday in Anderson.

“So I’d love to report that we took the tournament by story and play again tomorrow, but we are unfortunately out,” Kelseyville manager Melanie Barrick said.

Kelseyville dropped a 12-2 decision against Chico during first-round action on Friday.

“Well, not our best showing,” Barrick said. “The kids were more nervous than I’ve ever seen before, intimidated a little,” she added.

Kelseyville was right in it until the late innings when Chico broke open a 3-1 game.

Knocked into the consolation bracket of the four-team, double-elimination tournament, Kelseyville returned to action on Saturday against Redwood Empire (Eureka). Once again the late innings were not kind to Kelseyville and a competitive game turned into a runaway as Redwood Empire went on to prevail 14-3.

“Their kids could rake,” Barrick said of Redwood Empire.

Joey Gentle hit his first home run of the season for Kelseyville.

Redding won each of its first two games and appears to be the team to beat, according to Barrick.

Though the Kelseyville All-Stars, champions of District 2, came up short in the sectional playoffs, Barrick had nothing but praise for her players.

“I believe these little guys still represented Lake County well, gave it their all but came up short,” Barrick said. “It was a great experience, they (players) got all sorts of pins. We should hopefully get our (district) banner soon and we’ll finish up (the season) with pizza, pool and pictures to remember our little boys of summer.”
