MIDDLETOWN >> The Lake County Campus of Woodland Community College Culinary Arts Instructors received First Place Awards for their participation in the first Lake County Beer, Wine & Swine Baconfest, which took place in Kelseyville on Father’s Day, June 18. Rick White, First Vice President with the Kelseyville Business Association (KBA), presented the People’s Choice Award and the First Place Award for Best Bacon Entry to Chef Instructors Robert Cabreros, Ann-Marie Pleskaczewski and Culinary Instructional Assistant Ian Anderson.

Chef Cabreros and Anderson prepared the entry that earned the People’s Choice Award: an Asian Pork Belly Slider made with a house-made steamed bun, five-spice pork belly, and pickled daikon and carrot slaw. Chef Pleskaczewski prepared for dessert a Maple Mousse with candied bacon and griddled vanilla cookie, which won the Best Bacon entry as determined by a group of celebrity judges.

White said KBA was very excited to have the Lake County Campus of Woodland Community College as a participant in our Baconfest because it shows the people of Lake County that we have some great resources for young people who are looking for direction and may be contemplating a great career path that is right here in Lake County.

The campus has a restaurant called Aromas Café, operated by the Culinary Arts students, that will be opening on September 12. The restaurant will be serving gourmet lunches on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. The College Campus and Aromas Café are located at 15880 Dam Road Ext., Clearlake, CA 95422. For more information, call the campus at (707) 995-7900.
