FARGO, N.D. >> Jasmin Clarke, an incoming junior at Kelseyville High School, can add the title national champion to her wrestling resume.
Clarke won all four of her matches in the 200-pound cadet freestyle division to take top honors in the Cadet/Junior National Championships in Fargo, North Dakota.
A two-time state qualifier for the Knights and a third-place medalist at the North Coast Section championships in 2016 and 2017, the unranked Clarke won all three of her matches on Monday at the Fargodome before returning Tuesday to beat Tionna Collins of Kentucky by fall just 70 seconds into their championship match.
In Monday’s preliminary rounds, Clarke beat, in order, Sydney Fenus of Texas by pin, Ryan Schlereth of Missouri by pin in just 41 seconds, and Taja Showers of Virginia by 5-0 decision. Fenus and Showers were pegged as the favorites to win the national title.
Clarke is California’s 13th cadet national champion. She received a large plaque for her win and is accorded All-American honors.
Next up for Clarke is a run at the freestyle national title in the juniors division. Action begins today.
Clarke qualified for the National Championships after winning the 200-pound division at the USA Wrestling Cadet/Junior Freestyle State Championships in April.
