LINCOLN, Neb. >> Former Middletown High School golf star Doug Quinones shot a 6-under-par 65 during the Web.com Tour Monday qualifier at Wilderness Ridge Country Club in Lincoln, Nebraska, to gain entry into the Pinnacle Bank Championship in Omaha later this week.
It’s the first time Quinones has qualified into a Web.com Tour tournament. He is currently the No. 1-ranked golfer on the nearby Dakotas Tour.
The Pinnacle Bank Championship is a 72-hole event on the Web.com Tour. The total purse is $600,000 with the winner pocketing $108,000. It will be contested at The Club at Indian Creek where the par is 71. The tourney has been a staple on the PGA Tour’s version of AAA golf since 1996.
Quinones birdied the third, sixth, seventh, and eighth holes for a 4-under-par 32 on the front nine during Monday’s qualifier. He bogeyed the par-3 12th hole but then righted the ship with birdies on the 14th, 15th and 16th holes. His 65 was good for a third-place finish among a field of 120 golfers trying to finish in the top seven and earn a berth in the Pinnacle Bank Championship, which commences Thursday with a field of 156 golfers.
