Hero Project Family Fun Day

By Tamara Thornquist

The Hero Project celebrated with more than 200 of its families at the Lake County Office of Education, Hero Project, Family Fun Day event.

The Hero Project is undergoing some needed changes and the event that was once called the “Hullaballoo” has been re-named “Family Fun Day”. The event took place in late May.

The healthy theme of the event coincided with the current Hero Project challenge, Eat Together & Nutrition. In addition to apple slices, baby carrots, pretzels, and frozen yogurt pops & information from the USDA on eating healthy over the summer months, families enjoyed a wide variety of activities, information from local resources and three bounce houses!

Our Eat Together & Nutrition challenge began May and ended June 30. All families who complete the challenge will receive the cookbook, “The Plantiful Table”, a nice hardbound book full of healthy recipes, and children will receive the book, “Eat the Alphabet — Fruits and Vegetables from A-Z”. The grand prize winning family will receive a Ninja blender, a copy of The Plantiful Table, Eating the Alphabet, a juicing recipe book.

After the challenges conclude for the summer, Hero Project staff will be revising and restructuring the program — look for changes Fall 2017.
