KELSEYVILLE >> A Kelseyville man was shot and killed during an apparent break in early Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:25 a.m. Deputies arrived at a home in the 5000 block of State Street in Kelseyville following a report of an intruder.
Investigators have released few details on the nature of any confrontation, other than the shooting occurred inside the house. It is unknown from official reports if others were in the residence at the time.
The intruder fled and was last seen running to the south.
“When deputies arrived they found a male deceased in the residence from an apparent gunshot wound,” said LCSO Sgt. Corey Paulich in a prepared statement. “The Major Crimes detectives responded to the scene and are conducting the investigation.”
The suspect is described as a male, approximately 5’6 to 5’7, wearing a dark hooded sweat shirt.
Detectives were able to obtain photos of two persons of interest in this case. The Sheriff’s Office is requesting anyone who has surveillance video in the area of Gaddy Lane and State Street in Kelseyville contact Detective Shamus Stafford at 707-262-4231.
As part of their investigation, law enforcement officials closed the north end of State Street. The Sheriff’s Office asked that the public avoid the area, if at all possible.
According to Jerome Strach, who was on the scene, neighbors claimed another break in had occurred earlier at an unoccupied house.
Paulich urged anyone with information related to the identity of the persons of interest or information about the case to contact Detective Stafford or call the Sheriff’s Office at 707-263-2690.
“Your assistance is greatly appreciated,” he said.
