EUREKA >> Two Lake County drivers are waging quite the battle for the points lead atop the North State Modified Series season standings.
Two-time defending champion Darrin Knight of Kelseyville enters action tonight at the Redwood Acres Raceway in Eureka with a series-best 398 points, just seven more than Charlie Collins of Upper Lake at 391. Not far behind are two more Lake County drivers, both from Kelseyville, Darrin Sullivan with 369 points and Eric Johnson with 366.
Those standings could get even tighter after tonight’s seventh points race of the season, which begins with qualifying at 4:45 p.m. followed by racing at 6 p.m.
For those who want get an earlier start on their Saturday racing, pits open at 10 a.m. and practice begins at 1:20 p.m.
The winner of tonight’s 60-lap feature race will $1,250 from the regular purse plus a $100 bonus. The top 24 drivers finish in the money.
Protect the Harvest is the official sponsor of the North State Modified Series, which takes nearly a month off after tonight before resuming Aug. 19 at the Ukiah Speedway. Other race dates are Sept. 9 at the Redwood Acres Raceway, Sept. 23 at Shasta Speedway, and the season-ending Oct. 14 race at All American Speedway in Roseville.
