OMAHA, Neb. >> Doug Quinones of Hidden Valley Lake carded a 3-over-par 74 at The Club at Indian Creek in Omaha during second-round play on Friday in the Web.com Tour’s Pinnacle Bank Championship presented by Heartland Chevy Dealers.
Quinones shot a 1-under-par 70 during Thursday’s first-round play and his two-day aggregate total of 2-over-par 144 came up short of making the 36-hole cut and playing onward into the weekend.
The low 70 golfers and ties made the 36-hole cut. The cut line was set at 1-under-par 141 following completion of play on Friday. Quinones ended up finishing in a tie for 112th place out of a field of 156.
Beginning play on Friday from the 10th tee, Quinones birdied the par-4 10th hole to get to 2-under-par. However, the next four holes would prove to be his undoing as he made bogey on the 11th hole, made double-bogey on the par-4 12th hole, and made another bogey on the par-4 14th hole. Quinones made par on the remaining back-nine holes to shoot a 3-over-par 38. On the front nine, he made a bogey-five on the first hole but got that stroke back with a birdie-three on the third hole. He then made par over the final six holes to shoot an even-par 36 .
The Pinnacle Bank Championship was Quinones’ first experience on the Web.com Tour, a AAA developmental league that is coordinated by the PGA Tour. Quinones was a four-time All-Coastal Mountain Conference golfer at Middletown High School from 2005 through 2008 and played collegiately at Kansas University. He is currently a regular on the Dakotas Tour and is that circuit’s leading money winner.
Matt Davidson of New Jersey, a former PGA Tour player who has competed in 20 tournaments on the big tour, shot a second-round 6-under-par 65 to take the midpoint lead in the Pinnacle Bank Championship with a 36-hole total of 9-under-par 133. He leads Beau Hossler and Sam Ryder by one shot.
