A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck Friday off the coast of Northern California, about 45 miles west of Ferndale, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The USGS said the quake hit just after 4 p.m. at a depth of nearly 16½ miles. There were no immediate reports of any injuries or damage.
